Whale of a Sale

17 02 2010

Ok, so obviously I love the Junior League and all of it’s programs. These groups of women all over the country give back to communities in so many different ways.

But sometimes, as a by-product of giving back and donating to charity, etc…. we get to go SHOPPING!

I grew up in a family where it was not at all unusual to wake up way too early on a Saturday morning to hit the garage sales (all the good stuff is gone by sunrise!)

If you’re lucky enough to live in one of the cities where the local Junior League puts on a Whale of a Sale, it’s basically a humongous garage sale. The Jacksonville branch rents out the Fairgrounds for a weekend (February 26th – 27th, 2010) and there are literally acres of furniture, toys, DVDs, clothes, accessories, books… as far as the eye can see. There is something for everyone. And all the money goes to charity!

If you come to the preview party, you get free appitizers, drinks, games, entertainment, entrance to the silent auction, as well as the prime pick of the goodies.

I know they host Whale in Charleston in November and this weekend in Tallahassee, and I’m sure in many other places besides. Is there one in your state? If so, it’s definitely worth going to!
