Here you go–the official recipe Mamaw uses for her RVC. The recipe is pretty standard, but the moistness lies all in the sifting. Enjoy!

 

Mamaw’s Red Velvet Cake Recipe

 

2 cups oil

2 cups sugar

2 eggs

1 cup buttermilk OR plain milk with 2 teaspoons of white vinegar as substitute/Mamaw uses the vinegar and milk almost always

1 teaspoon vanilla

1oz. bottle of red food coloring use the whole bottle

2 1/2 cups flour

1 teaspoon salt

t teaspoon baking soda

2 tablespoons cocoa

 

Sift flour and set to the side.

make buttermilk and set to the side.

Cream oil and sugar, add eggs, color vanilla stir.

In a separate bowl add all dry ingredients, flour, salt, soda and cocoa sift together then put a little of the dry ingredients into the wet mixture.

Add a little milk and alternate dry ingredients and milk until all of it is mixed together.

Bake in 3 pans thin layers 25 min. at 325 do not overbake depending on your oven bake until just barely done it will bake a little more when you take it out.

 

Frosting:

Cream 1 stick butter

8oz. cream cheese

1 lb. box powered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

very finely chopped nuts (optional) Nahhhhh

mix all together

spread on each layer and ice the rest of the cake
