Three French Hens

7 12 2010

Faith. Hope. Love.

Whether you’re religious or not, these values are what Christmas is all about, right? But the greatest of these is love.

Legend says that the “three hens” in The Twelve Days of Christmas represent faith, hope, and love, the three Christian charities. Why not celebrate this day by giving your loved ones a gift that represents the three french hens — in faith, hope, and love.

Hang these ornaments on your tree to remind you of these three important qualities. Or give a lovely lady these pendants to hang from around her neck for a pretty reminder. And I love these unique and funky ornaments in — faith, hope, and love. And I love this photograph of “Hope Street.”

If you want to go with a more literal interpretation, hens, especially in the home, are in vogue right now, so finding lots of gorgeous presents would be easy. Here are a few of my favorites to represent the third day of Christmas.

I had to laugh at how cute this girl’s t-shirt is. Oui! Oui! (This same shop had several Christmas-related products that were adorable for your little ones… check it out.) This antique Christmas plate is gorgeous, and features an etching of the famous three french hens, along with a holly border. And perhaps you could hang each of these paper ornaments as the days progress on your tree — there’s one for each day of Christmas, including “three French hens.” A couple of great Christmas cards featuring a trio of hens — here and here. I love (and want) these trendy cool French hen feather earrings. Or perhaps your family are fans of reality television? How about Season 5 of Top Chef. What’s the connection there, you ask? Check out episode 6, where Martha Stewart judges the contestants who prepare their interpretations of the 12 days of Christmas meals.

Maybe you want to be more abstract, and go French. Everyone loves the city of love, right? These Paris tags would look beautiful on christmas presents, or any gift all year around. A Joyeux Noel box (seen above). And a Pere Noel (Father Christmas) tag. All of these by Etsy seller, FrenchHenShop! This French photograph print would look wonderful in a home. And for a great read, Peter Mayle’s A Year in Provence would be sure to please for the coming season, and all the seasons to come!
