Go walkin’ in Memphis in those blue suede shoes and soak up the rich music heritage in Memphis at Sun Studios.
Ok, enough of my music humor.
While Memphis certainly has its share of music in its blood, including Stax and Cotton Row studies, by far, Sun Studios is most notorious.
Legends such as Elvis, U2, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, and John Mellencamp have recorded here. Opened in 1950 by Sam Phillips, the studio claims, and rightfully so, to be the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll, and has certainly been the birthplace of Grammy awards and music from artists we Southerners all know and love today.
Next time you’re in Memphis, make plans to visit the studio as well as the museum gallery featuring fascinating and rare photographs and vintage recording equipment. Take home a souvenir from the gift shop, or just get inspired to make your own music. Maybe someday thousands of screaming fans will melt at the sound of your crooning voice or scandalous dance moves.
