Even though yesterday was the first official day of fall, for most of us in the South, a slight dip in the mercury still feels an awful lot like summer. And while the promise of new school supplies, tweed, colorful leaves is exciting, it’s still hard for me to leave summer behind.

Luckily, around our parts, there’s still a nice batch of those last few juicy summer tomatoes to be found. And nothing says summer to me like a delicious, drippy tomato sandwich. Whether you add the BL to the T, just a slice of cheese, grilled, or, my favorite — on soft white bread with lots of mayo, make sure you get in this lovely summer pleasure before the indian summer is officially gone. And make sure you do it sitting out on the front step, napkin draped over your knees, waving to a neighbor with a full bite of heaven in your mouth. And of course, a cool glass of sweet iced tea by your side.
